Clervaux, Luxembourg to Trier, Germany
6 July
This day started with another train ride--this time from Clervaux back down to Mersch. In Mersch, Stephannie, Geroge, Martin, and I stopped at a Cactus store to pick up food for a picnic later, and then started our ride. We rode a little way along the base of a ridge, and then turned up a road to climb it. We found the road not only closed by construction, but pretty much gone. There was no way for us to go any further, so we went back down and continued along the base of the ridge. About 5k further on, we found another road over the ridge, and started our climb. It was a long, steep hill past a campground in a dense forest. At the top, we emerged into fields that we crossed to Altlinster, where we stopped for our lunch.
After lunch, we continued across the plain to Bourglinster. Bourglinster was another quaint, cobbled town with an odd-looking castle.
Out of Bourglinster, we climbed another significant hill. But once we cleared it, we had a long, steady downhill ride into Wasserbillig. In Wasserbillig, we picked up the Mosel River and crossed into Germany, again without a sign of any sort. Following the Mosel, we rode a nice flat, well-maintained bike path into Trier.
