Is He Kidding?

President Bush was asked if he had a "greeting" for Saddam Hussein in the wake of his capture this past weekend. The President's response ran in part:

Good riddance. The world is better off without you, Mr. Saddam Hussein. I find it very interesting that when the heat got on, you dug yourself a hole and you crawled in it.

Read that again. Or better yet, listen to the audio if you can find it. This is our President, our Commander in Chief, the most powerful man in the world, speaking for our nation? Did he actually resort to personal, inarticulate, passive-aggressive schoolyard taunting? "Mr. Saddam Hussein"? "When the heat got on"? I've tried to be fair. I've tried to treat our President and his administration with the respect due that august office in this Weblog--I really have. But the increasingly inescapable truth is that the man may not be qualified for the job. How did this happen?
